Social 2010
Hi guys,
Hayley and Dan here.
We’ve got an awesome year lined up for you all, with more than enough excuses to delay the 60 page readings and push the draft deadlines... (but seriously, do your readings…)
First up in our line of defence against boredom is first year speed mating. Next up, get to know your fellow law students a little better at the Boot Camp pub-crawl. Also on the way are the Women in Law Breakfast and the End of Semester Masquerade Ball.
Second semester is sure to be equally epic with the Ekka Race day, Women in Law take two and the extravagant End of Year Law Gala.
If there was ever a year to sit at home, this is NOT it! We have every intention of making your year as spectacular as possible with plenty of people to meet, plenty of food to eat, plenty of alcohol to drink and plenty of music to dance to1
It’s going to be a great year, make sure you get amongst it!
Work hard, play harder.

1. BUY AN L-CARD. Just do it. “Why?” I hear you ask… well
a. The combined University Law Societies have worked their corporate butts off to get you some amazing deals at some pretty impressive venues and businesses.
So by spending $15 you’ll save yourself some nasty cover charges on big nights out, be entitled to drink and food specials and receive various retail discounts.
b. You’ll automatically become a member of the Griffith University Law Society, which means you can compete in GULS competitions (you know you want to) and take part in various other opportunities offered by the society.
c. Finally, the most important benefit is that you’ll receive discounts to the events run by the GULS Social committee (THAT’S US!), which will give you access to some awesome venues and some great bar tabs at a reduced price.
2. THE EVENTS
SPEED MATING (Week 2)
What? To kick of your first year at university we have decided to host a meet and greet session to help you establish friends, which you will carry throughout the rest of your degree. We understand that most of you are fresh out of high school and might not know anybody, which is why we have set up this great event. It is a great opportunity to build relationships with your peers and also the GULS committee…as well as have a few giggles in the process.
When? 8th of March, 4pm (straight after your LAMS lecture)
Where? TBA
How Much? Free for L-Card members, $5 for non-members (More reasons to buy an l-card!)
BOOT CAMP PUB CRAWL (Week 4)
What? Get your army boots on and lose the attitude because the boot camp pub crawl has enlisted you! That’s right, we are having a pub crawl this year and want you to be apart of it.
Theme? Have a guess…ARMY! We’re talking all things camouflage. Get out the brown and green because we all love a man in uniform!
When? 24th of March, 7pm
Where? Fox Hotel, Port Office Hotel, Birdee Num Nums.
How Much? $20 for L-Card members, $25 for non-members
Women In Law Breakfast (Week 9)
What? Always a popular event is the women in law breakfast, which is a great chance to mingle with other students, members of faculty and guest from sponsoring firms. It features a female guest speaker and another from a sponsoring firm, both who speak to the general theme of women in law. STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS
MASQUERADE BALL
What? One last chance to let your hair down before exams! Fine clothes, fine company at a fine venue. Dinner, drinks and a dance. It’s enough to make any man feel like Bond, and any woman Cinderella. After the main event, we provide an awesome after party for all who want to continue till dawn.
When? 14th May
How Much? $75 for L-Card members
Theme: Masquerade. Hide your face so the world will never find you (little musical theatre reference for all you Lloyd Webber fans). Be prepared for a night of mystery and intrigue.
Venue to be announced shortly!!!
3. Don’t forget!
The chance to socialise doesn’t start and end with each passing event, be sure to stop by the GULS office, add us on facebook and shoot us an email to find out the up to the minute info on events, express any concerns or suggestions you may have or even just for a chat.
